Semi-Cloisonne pins are made with essentially the same method except brilliant colored resins are used instead of powdered glass in the filled areas. There are almost unlimited colors available because of the resins. Fired and then highly polished, this process can reveal excellent detail.
A very excellent substitute for Cloisonne, but less expensive, epola pins or called New Cloisonne, Cloisonne II and Semi-Cloisonne, have been around for about two decades. Cloisonne can only use a handful of colors but semi-enamel cloisonne pins can have over 1, 000 Pantone colors used in the making of the pin, and also cheaper to make and offer a faster turnaround time.
